Setting Jewels on Bridges

Some of you might know it but jewels are not caliber decorations (they are nice though). They play a crucial role in the accuracy of any mechanical watches. Because of their incredibly smooth surface, they reduce drasticaly the wheels and pignions axis wear turning between the main plate and the bridges. High quality ones have also a special shape, called “olivé” that helps to retain and diffuse the lubricant. Here is above, a nice zoom on the tool used to set them.

Et voilà! A jewel set on beautiful bridge that has been pre-champfered (we will finish them by hand of course), sand-blasted and engraved!
